Mattamy Homes in Jacksonville Completes Construction of Habitat for Humanity Home in St. Augustine in One Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Mattamy Homes in Jacksonville, partnering with the St Augustine Record, recently completed the construction of a Habitat for Humanity home in St. Augustine in just seven days.

Dennis Ginder, president of Mattamy Homes in the Jacksonville region, said the homebuilder’s staff worked with volunteers from the St. Augustine Record to build the one-story home in the Vermont Heights area of St. Augustine.  “We were very excited to be part of such a worthwhile organization and cause,” Ginder said.

Mattamy Homes was asked to join Habitat’s recent 2008 National Blitz Build Week.  Ginder said construction of the 1,401 square foot, three-bedroom, two-bath home began late on a Friday afternoon and was completed  by the following Thursday.

“Not only did we complete the home ahead of schedule, we were able to save Habitat approximately $16,000 in construction cost,” Ginder said.

The savings came through the generosity of Mattamy’s trade partners – suppliers and subcontractors -- who donated time and materials, according to Ginder.

“At the dedication ceremonies, when we witnessed joy and excitement on the faces of the family who would be moving into their new Mattamy-built home, we realized the true meaning of giving,” said Ginder.

Habitat for Humanity is a nationwide organization that marshals volunteers and home building professionals with donated supplies and materials to build homes for needy families.
