Breaking Through The Twitter Barrier

Friday, November 02, 2012 /

So your home building company is out there tweeting away, but are you really reaching potential customers? With more than 140 million users and 340 million tweets per day, if you're not tweeting your content at the right time of day, chances are you're being looked over.

Here are a few stats on the best times of day to tweet according to, a widely used URL shortener for Twitter:

·         You Don’t like Mondays – Well Get Over It! The prime time for tweeting is between 1 and 3 p.m. EST Monday through Thursday (or 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. PT), and the earlier in the week you tweet, the better.

·         No Late Nights. No Weekends. Avoid tweets with links after 8 p.m. EST Monday through Thursday and after 3 p.m. EST on Fridays. Similarly, don't post links you want to go viral on the weekends.

·         We've got A.D.D. The half-life of a link posted on Twitter is 2.8 hours. For content that is highly important, this means you will need to tweet it multiple times to reach the maximum number of followers.

Keep in mind that all tweets are not created equal. If you are promoting an event that falls after hours or on weekends – you need to be tweeting during those hours. Just remember to think strategically about promoting these event as well as posting post-event images and footage in order to maximize exposure.  Also, breaking news is breaking news no matter when it happens.

As always, the key to any successful social media marketing campaign is to know your audience. By knowing what your followers want to see, information on new homes and communities, relevant news stories, links to your blog posts, photos and more, and when they want to see it, you'll increase your chances of social media success.
