How to Get More Facebook "likes" and Twitter Followers

So, you finally took the plunge into social media with a company Facebook page and Twitter account. You’re updating these accounts regularly, but you don’t seem to be getting many “likes” or followers. Surprise! Unlike advertising, social marketing is interactive.  If you build it, you need to entice them to come.  It’s time to expand your following and garner interest in your company and your communities. Below are some tips to increase your social media presence and attract more potential clients.

  • Focus on your content. The best way to discourage future followers and turn off current followers is to bombard them with irrelevant messages. Instead of posting any and everything that you come across online, focus on only updating your social media accounts with interesting and relevant information that your followers actually want to know.
  • Follow the people you want to follow you. A sure fire way to get more followers is to start following other people. However, don’t follow someone only to boost your number of followers. Focus on finding people that you’re interested and have a common connection to you. Hint – There are lots and lots of Realtors on social networking sites for business reasons. If you follow them and interact, they in turn will reciprocate.
  • Engage with your followers. Do you want people to take an active interest in your communities and company? Engage them online. People like to know that there is an actual human being monitoring your account. When someone asks a question, answer it. If someone responds to your status update or tweet, take the opportunity to engage that person in conversation.
  • Focus on quality instead of quantity. Having a HUGE number of followers is great, but only if they are the right ones. Focus more on following the right people (those that can help your business) than following just anyone who happens along.
  • Think interactively. You want your followers to feel as if they are part of your community. Creating games and contest that are played and entered via your social media outlets is a great way to really engage your followers as well attract more followers that can help grow your following with the right people. Examples: Photo Contests, Charity Drives, Video Contests and Online Races and Scavenger Hunts. These are all easy and fun ways to interact with your followers.
  • Spread the word. Draw attention to your facebook and twitter pages by embedding a facebook and twitter widget on your website and adding a link to your pages in our email signature.
  • Have a plan. Have a goal in mind and map out a plan that you follow everyday. Just like any other element of a marketing campaign, having an organized plan of action will ensure that you work on increasing followers actively vs passively
