Washington DC (December 2, 2015) – HomeAid America, a building industry charity and one of the nation’s largest builders of housing for the homeless, had one of its shelter projects in the Washington DC Area as the site for President Obama and his family’s annual serving of Thanksgiving dinner for those in need.

Every year, President Obama and his family select a location to serve traditional turkey dinner to the less fortunate in the DC area, and this year chose Friendship Place, a leader in the Washington area in finding solutions to homelessness, using innovative and customized programs to help participants rebuild their lives.  Next year will mark their 25th year pursuing and excelling in this mission.

This past year, Friendship Place received a complete renovation of its Welcome Center by HomeAid Washington DC, in conjunction with Home Builders Care Foundation, Case Foundation and Efficient Home LLC in Maryland.  The work done had a total value estimated at $175,000.  Friendship Place Director of Development, Tanya Sweeney, said “The renovated Welcome Center definitely helped Friendship Place serve more than 2,500 individuals this year, some of those persons having the opportunity to also be served by the President and his family!  How wonderful is that?"

Executive Director of HomeAid Washington DC Patti Kane said “Our HomeAid DC/Home Builders Care charitable construction program is all about working with community nonprofits to meet the challenges of caring for our neighbors in need.  Helping Friendship Place renovate their homeless service center is a great example of our mission in action.  Hopefully, the upgrades and repairs we have made at Friendship Place will help them to care for those experiencing homelessness for many more years to come.” ABOUT HOMEAID AMERICA
