Irvine, CA—In the spirit of giving back, Taylor Morrison joined forces with the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation at the Cinco de Mayo Half Marathon and Reaching For The Cure event, helping raise more than $17,000 in funds to assist children with cancer. The event drew thousands of participants and spectators in the streets of Irvine Sunday, May 2nd. The 10K/5K and 1K Kids Run marathon festivities included games, information booths, food giveaways, entertainment, face painting and more.
“It is humbling to see what children endure living with cancer,” commented Phil Bodem, President of Taylor Morrison, Southern California Division. “They are so courageous and full of hope. Events such as these are necessary to raise both awareness as well as funds to help improve their care, quality of life and survival rate,” he continued. “I’m extremely proud of our staff, all of whom were eager to participate by raising money and running in the race. Their personal commitment is evident not only in their professional lives but outside the workplace as well. More than $17,000 was raised, and we’re thrilled to see it go to such a worthy cause.”
The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation was founded in 1982 and since its inception has raised more than 22 million dollars to fund research to help fight childhood cancers. As a result of those efforts, what was once considered terminal – childhood leukemia – now has a 70% survival rate. However, cancer is still the number one disease for children under 18 and requires continuous research and support.
