NAHB Recognizes Southern California Builder Alliance with Safety Award for Innovation

Wednesday, January 03, 2018 / Pardee Homes

Corona, CA --- A collaboration among Building Industry of Southern California (BIASC) home builders, known as the Southern California Builders Safety Alliance (SCBSA), has been recognized by the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) as a 2017 first place winner in their annual SAFE Awards program.  The NAHB/Builders Mutual Insurance Company Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) program recognizes the achievements of builders and trade contractors who have developed and implemented high quality construction safety programs in eight categories.

Chelsea Vetick, NAHB Program Manager for Safety states that this honor is awarded as an acknowledgement of gratitude, "for the BIASC Builder’s Safety Alliance efforts to ensure that home builders, trade contractors, and workers in the residential construction industry return home to their families and friends each day."  According to the NAHB, being recognized as a first-place winner means that the NAHB acknowledges leadership and commitment to improving construction safety in the homebuilding industry.

The SAFE Awards entry submitted by 2018 SCBSA Chairperson Teri Thurbush of Pardee Homes addressed the alliances’ efforts and commitment to keep safety at the forefront of the homebuilding business.  The SCBSA initiative focused on sharing best practices, offering training to trades and fellow builders and insuring unsafe acts and behaviors were eliminated.  The Alliance’s vision to lead the new home construction industry in adopting and employing approved OSHA required safety practices moves the industry closer to making sure everyone who shows up on a construction job put safety first.  The award-winning essay earned the SCBSA first place in the category of Innovative Safety Program/Idea of the Year from the NAHB.

“As the 2018 chairperson of the Alliance, I’m looking forward to sharing the progress in safety that all builders are making,” said Thurbush, General Manager of Options and Safety for Pardee Homes Inland Empire.  “The SCBSA is dedicated to promoting safe work practices and working towards making safety a mindset of all workers. We are a Building Industry of Southern California recognized committee and are driven to make a difference in our industry. I am thankful for the opportunities that Pardee Homes has provided me on the job and as part of this community and am fortunate to have the support of my management to continue as part of the SCBSA team to make sure we remain a leader in safety in the years to come.”
